N.L. couple claims $21 M Lotto prize

.
I wonder if Linton & Olga realize that I am their long-lost cousin who drifted away on an iceberg many, many years ago? :-)   (Regardless, congratulations to them both!!!)

Newfoundland and Labrador's newest millionaires arrived in a limousine to pick up their $21 million cheque.

Linton and Olga Barnes won the multi-million-dollar Atlantic Lotto draw this past weekend.

They heard on the radio that a winning ticket had been sold in their home town, Conception Bay South.

The couple received their cheque on Thursday at a presentation in St. John's on the George Street concert stage.

Why does this stuff always make me sad?

I've read too many stories of (a) the destruction of the family afterwards caused by the 'windfall' and (b) so, so many welfare recipients spending so much of their cheques on tickets in the hope of climbing out of their poverty circle.

A tax on the poor these lottery tickets and cursed money if you 'win'.

Gawd what a downer I am, eh?

GFB, you might think you went all the way on the ox cart, but you fell off just south of Bonavista! :-)

WWW, oh lighten up willya? I agree there has been misery created by these millions, but there also have been wonderful stories that we don't hear much about simply because there is less incentive to tell us the good news. In all its various forms! ;-)
